Footballing legends Rio Ferdinand and Mark Bright joined Crystal Palace FC’s owner Steve Parish at BGC to help raise funds for 5 Star Active; a network of sport for development charities working with disadvantaged young people.

5 Star Active partners include Rio’s own charity the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, lead partner Active Communities Network and Crystal Palace FC Foundation.

5 Star Active Programme Manager, Rhiannon Tuck, said:

“This opportunity meant so much for the 5 Star Active partner charities and we were so thrilled to be involved – hopefully we’ll have helped raise some serious money – but it’s priceless in terms of what it meant for the young people involved as it really was an eye opener for them. We loved every second.”

5 Star Active young person, 16 year old Mo said:

“What a great day at the BGC Charity Day with 5 Star Active! I’ve never met so many important people in my life for example, Tom hardy who won the best film of 2014 award and the best actor for 2011. That was a once in a life time opportunity! At age 16 the stock brokers allowed me to do stock broking myself!? I did so well they offered me work experience in the holidays!”

5 Star Active Ambassador Rio Ferdinand said

“It’s a little daunting at first being put on the phone and having to sell or buy (and not wanting to mix that up!) but it’s a real buzz and the lads on the trading floor are great banter.  We’re all really pleased to be involved, met some great people and hopefully my deals will help to raise even more for our charities.  Really chuffed for our young lads Mo and Michael have been offered work experience with BGC too, that’s what our work is all about.”
